Our work

Education

Love in Motion USA is currently involved in the education sector in Nakivale focusing on kindergarten education and aiming at improving the education levels of the children in Nakivale.

Uganda ministry of Education and UNHCR were very excited about Love in Motion supporting the construction of Nakivale kindergarten school. They themselves provided teachers on time and standard learning materials.

Love in Motion implements in close collaboration with the Local Ministry of Education, the local administration, School management committees, and the general population local church and local associations.

The school management committee in Nakivale School is made of 12 members (8 parents, 2 children and 2 teachers) and is currently mobilizing population to any needed task. The community is so much motivated to have a good learning space and to have a space for their children to attend school. Love in Motion did not forget to improve sanitation facilities in order to achieve the minimum hygiene conditions that a school need to protect children and teachers from hygiene related diseases and high levels of morbidity. The school does currently have 1 block of 3 latrines, one for girls, one for boys and one for teacher. The maintenance of the sanitation facilities, as part of the school maintenance in general, is managed through the community. Two classrooms and 1 block of 3 latrines were constructed by Love in Motion in collaboration with Government and Nakivale community members.

Quality education is the prerequisite for achieving equity. The focus ensures that children are able to read and write at all levels and that there is improved retention in schools. The role of parents and family support for learning is also an integral part of education programming.

Love in Motion USA empowers children in such a way that increases their involvement in development activities to better enable them to realize their potential. Programmes intend use the sponsorship concept, as well as the concept of integrated project components to mobilize and motivate parents, guardians and leaders to offer better support and care for the holistic development of their children. They are involved in the implementation and monitoring of the programme activities.

Love in Motion USA   continues to work with children until they will be graduated in the University. Every Staff who works at field level is assigned a number of children that he must follow up.

Household Resilience and Livelihoods

The  project focused on increasing production of major life-sustaining crops through enhancing access to better quality planting material, essential farming tools and more productive multiplication techniques and diversification of crops (Corns and Beans) Community members were trained and supported with agricultural inputs.

In households in Africa, particularly in rural areas, community members depend on agriculture and agri-business for their livelihoods. Subsistence agriculture and more specifically crop farming remain the main source of livelihoods for small-scale farmers. However, the subsistence farming practiced is weather dependent, given the current weather unpredictability, most households face challenges of absorbing and adapting to shocks. The factors that account for weak households’ resilience include: low agricultural production and productivity, low value addition to agricultural produce and limited market access. In addition, the inadequate implementation of agricultural laws and policies and the weak public agricultural institutions undermine household resilience.

Christmas Celebration

Love in Motion celebrated Christmas last year with 153 children in Nakivale .The purpose of the day was to grow children's awareness of God's love through the celebration of Christmas and sensitize parents on the benefit of Education. Parents and teachers appreciated the initiative as it brought the Christmas cheer to all of them and their Children. At that day 153 children received school kits. After the celebration one child said "I have enjoyed every moment and I'm happy these school material as they will be helpful for my education.

Poultry keeping

Through daily eggs, a coop of chickens provided a sustainable protein source, which can significantly improve the nutrition of vulnerable families. Women Associations were supported with chickens and the materials for a starter coop. Since they’re easy to raise and multiply quickly, associations earned an additional income by selling eggs or chicks in the market.

Love in Motion USA helped to facilitate a poultry farm at Nakivale. Associations received instruction on how to care for the chickens and now teach others in her community.

The project, which included a chicken coop, resulted in an 80 percent increase in school attendance, a way to provide school lunches to students and unification between the students and community members over a sustainable solution to malnutrition.

Sewing

Love in Motion USA Center intervenes in the cycle of poverty in Uganda by offering one-year vocational training programs. 30 women are now in applied and practical sewing training. Our goal is to provide a sewing machine for every woman who has completed her training, which helps her to find a job or start her own small business. Sewing machines open up opportunities for women and their families to break through the cycle of poverty.

Partnership

The community participation in projects implementation was remarkable. The relationship between children, parents, community members and Love in Motion staff was improved farther to multiple inclusive meeting opportunities organized by the Love in Motion. In partnership with existing government agencies, trainings were organized in the community. Love in Motion has always been on the lookout for the most vulnerable children in the covered areas ensuring their meaningful participation and that the interventions under the different projects are able to reach them. The collaboration with the local administration authorities and other line ministries especially local associations, Faith Based Organizations and Non Government Organizations operating in Nakivale has been excellent.  There was good networking and collaboration between the Program management and stakeholders through interactive synergy, meetings, trainings/workshops and inputs distribution.

Love in Motion worked closely with the community leaders and FBOs to build their capacity to enable them gradually take over and run their development. As result they were involved in identification of deserving beneficiaries and mobilizing resources to contribute to input purchases (i.e. corns, Beans, Chicken and tools for sewing centre).
